It’s been awhile since I’ve had a chance to post a few projects. Here’s my favorite from 2013, a 10′ disco ball for What the Festival, an edm music fest near Mt Hood. The ball has over 1,600 pieces of 2 way mirror, spins at 1 rpm and has room for a DJ inside. image Unknown 549482_10151802993057790_499581134_n photo-1

Fire sphere

I recently headed South to my alma mater of Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo to set up a few pieces I’m proposing for their beautiful performing arts center. It was great to visit the place where I learned to weld and see all the changes that have occurred over the past 25 years or so…. I also appreciated the nice comments from the students and was interested to see how they responded to the different sculptures. If the spheres or 10′ Re Invention are chosen they would made from stainless steel to compliment the colors of the building. On the way home I visited my mom in Pt Reyes, enjoyed an epic art party with my brother and in all met many great people.

Fire sphere

I delivered a few pieces to a collector in Silver Springs Maryland last August and just received these photos of how they look in the snow. The yellow is powder coated over a galvanized substrate for durability, the other is a 84″ , with a natural rust finish.

Fire sphere

I installed these spheres, one is 64″ inches and 450 pounds, the smaller is 44″ and 100 pounds at a spectacular home in the Columbia Gorge this week. Luckily the ice had thawed and with a lot of help from Tim the builder and his friend Steven, all went as planned. I’m happy that we were able to position them to appear as if they are floating.

Fire sphere

This is a 5′ 6″ diameter sphere made from silicon bronze flat bar, 1/8″ x 2″. The pictures show the process of finishing the bronze from its’ shiny beginning it was sandblasted, washed with a mild acid to create a patina, washed and lightly sanded and finally coated with a lacquer…. I’ll have a final photo soon after they are installed so please check back.

Fire sphere

I did this some years ago for a western themed restaurant, kiln formed glass, found driftwood, hammered copper and a bit of barbed wire.
