Noyo Cobble sphere now at Cornerstone!

Noyo cobbles are the name of locally, Sonoma County area, found stones, 4″ to 8″ or so in size. It took 2 yards to fill this 60″ sphere, about 6,ooo pounds. It’s placed in a garden whose theme is “contrasts”, so you have the sphere made from squares and rectangles filled with round stones and a very heavy sculpture looking very light, at least that was the idea. Stop by Cornerstone Gardens in Sonoma and decide for yourself!

Here’s a shot of Love Lost in an office in the Met Life building in New York, I’m very glad I didn’t have to do the installation as the piece weighs 300 pounds and I don’t like heights.

It took a bit of thinking over vacation and the result is that I can now make balls of any size. In the past I would build them over a form which meant I was limited by the size of the form, 4′. This 7′ prototype was fun and I’m sure the next one at 10′ will be even more striking.

I made some trash enclosures for the Alberta Mainstreet coalition with some innovative ideas. They are clad with old street signs to make them visible and fun and also somewhat difficult to vandalize and they have storage on the top for cans and bottles for easy access for the folks who recycle. Special thanks to Cannon Beach for helping with the signs, Sara, the driving force behind the Mainstreet group and Larry whose strong back and will helped place the cans and move the project forward.

Stop by the latest New Seasons at Progress Ridge in Beaverton. I made a tree with over 1300 pieces of silverware as the leaves and Margaret Kuhn whipped up some fun ceramic “fruit” . The other end of the store has a waterfall of salmon which I installed with help from my friend Craig. Soon I’ll start on another project for New Seasons at their next store to open at Fishers Landing in Vancouver.
